Boy does time slip by...

Well, so much for getting some work done...

After weeks of not being "home," I came home made a wedding cake, unpacked my stuff (sort of) ran all sorts of errands and of course intended to catch up on my case load for work. Really I was going to. I finally looked at what time it was and said, well never mind what I said.

I wiled away the afternoon by looking through my Artful Blogging magazine, cleaning up the kitchen, updating my blog, and taking pictures, but no "work" occurred. I will now have to set my alarm to some awful time before the sun actually considers peeking it's head over the hills and actually get my butt out of bed. (note to self do not hit snooze more than once!)

So now I will refuse to feel guilty and to aid me in that task is the yummiest bottle of Todd Taylor 2006 Lockwood Cabernet. The picture is a little dark but heck I'm just learning about this whole photography thing and you should have seen the blurry pictures when I tried with no flash and more light in the room. Not pretty.

Shortbread for Ally

See only three ingredients you should be able to make these with your eyes closed. Just remember to share them!!!

Scottish Shortbread II

"Light, very buttery. Does not make a large batch, but are simple enough to make many batches. Recipe does not double well."
INGREDIENTS:
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/3 cup white sugar
3/4 cup butter
DIRECTIONS:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C).
2. Blend all ingredients well. Dough will be stiff.
3. Press into a 9 x 9 inch buttered dish. Prick top with a fork.
4. Bake until pale golden brown on the edges. Cool and cut into squares.

Slippage

Well, I have to say I was very pleased with the last wedding cake I did. It turned out beautiful, that is until I drove it to the reception site. There is nothing more frustrating than having buttercream slip especially when you have intricate string work. So here are the before and after pictures. I do have to say that the cake tasted delicious... That extra top tier I made is G O N E and sorry Nicole, I didn't save you a single bite.

Finally Up

Well after several weeks of not being able to remember my new password to be able to get this darn thing up and running I cracked the code!! Yipee! Now I can share my passion with all of my unsuspecting victims. If anyone cares that is. Ha!

I've been up here in far Northern California for several weeks now torturing my mother, cooking and baking, not necessarily in that order. Made a cake for my cousin's wedding a few weeks back. Then had an opportunity to practice my fondant work and made a cake for a Halloween party last weekend. I think it turned out pretty well and the hostess loved it and said it tasted fantastic and that's all that matters.

Next up in the baking arena, Mykel's wedding cake and a birthday cake for my mom. And...an attempt at fried chicken. Everyone keep your fingers crossed, it could get ugly!
